La Ragazza?

[rey.gat.ssa/]
La Ragazza is a simple italian word which means "girl." It's the personal and personality driven side of Jocelyn Mandryk Creative. An artistic outlet, a creative vent, an insightful rant, and most of all a medium for me to be...well, simply me. Visit, stay awhile, enjoy.

che...helado?

Ice cream, or “helado” is widely known as the sexiest treat on the planet and for obvious reasons this is even moreso the case in Argentina. In Buenos Aires ( aka "mecca for ice cream" ) consumption of helado from Italian inspired cafes is more than sexy, it’s deadly. Whether you’re a latina size 2, a couple in love, or a family of 6, ice cream in this city is to die for...

Lucky for me I had a couple Argentine assasins on-hand to help me prove my point.

The helado scene in Buenos Aires is something I encourage everyone who visits or lives here to indulge in. Though I’m no expert as a foreigner, I can say that commercially the biggest rivalry for helado in BA exists between Freddo & Volta. Both offer dozens of creamy flavors and an equally rich ambiance in which to enjoy. Furthermore, they’ll deliver to your doorstep on little Italian scooters and most of them are open well past 2 am just in case you get a little midnight craving after the malbec & meat.

The flavors range from the ever-popular dulce de leche and frutilla ( strawberry ) to savory flavors like pistachio, pumpkin, and whisky. And unlike gelato in Florence, you won’t pay 6 euros for a dollop but rather 10-12 pesos for a delicious quantity that’s more than what one person could healthily consume on their own.

For me, beyond assassinating my two porteno friends with neapolitan and a camera, (which bye the way is heaps of fun) there is something delightful about coming out of a bar in the middle of night and instead of encountering obnoxious drunks staggering down the street you find crowds of locals sitting open air innocently eating ice cream. It may be a simple observation, but nonetheless an equally sweet part of argentine culture that makes me want to stay:)

* A special thanks to my fabulous amigos Guille & Carlos who might want to learn the english expression, "don't hate me because I'm beautiful."
